NMN: What Human Studies Support — and What Marketing Often Overstates

NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide) is widely marketed for anti-ageing, brain health, hormonal balance, fertility, and energy. But many of these claims go beyond the current human research.

Based on published human studies, the strongest support for NMN is limited to its ability to influence NAD-related biomarkers and, in one notable trial, improve muscle insulin sensitivity in postmenopausal women with prediabetes. These findings are promising, but they do not prove that NMN slows ageing, improves longevity, or delivers broad whole-body health benefits.

Importantly, there is no robust human evidence showing that NMN improves hormonal health, reproductive health, or brain health. Claims around fertility support, hormone optimisation, memory enhancement, and neuroprotection are largely based on animal studies, mechanistic theory, or marketing language rather than strong clinical outcomes in people.

That is where NMN advertising can become misleading. A biological rationale is not the same as proven benefit. Small, short-term studies also cannot confirm long-term effectiveness or safety.

The most accurate conclusion is simple: NMN shows early potential in limited human settings, but many popular claims are not yet clinically proven.
